Feature Film Review

As the name implies, "All About Manos" is really is all about Manos. Vic Manos to be exact. Your typical stud that every girl, or guy for that matter, wants to get with... and he knows it. He also happens to be a trainer - and sells what appear to be his own brand of vitamins. How vain can you get right? The unforeseen drawback? The same attention Vic seems to want to garner, is also the same attention he wants the least. The stalkers and the strange ones of the planet. Sounds fun right? In the real world, a lot of the story and concept behind "All About Manos" would be considered borderline criminal. At the very least completely uncool. Here however, the comedic elements are played upon quite nicely. Truthfully? There are some pretty funny moments here. Even if only because the alternative to funny would be scary. Still... Catherine Natale and Eden Young, who scripted this show, tap into the sitcom styled television of yesteryear. A time when weirdos were cute, stalkers were a laugh a minute... and blowup dolls were all the comedic rage. Thankfully for me, I'm old enough to remember all those old awesome shows. Some of the younger generation however, may fail to see the comedy. For some of the gags that is, but not all. Whatever age a viewer may be, there is still something here to laugh at. For a micro budgeted indie series, "All About Manos" has a lot to offer.
As for the technical side of the show? More or less just what you're expecting. Good, bad, and a load of stuff in the middle. Honestly? "All About Manos" has a lot more good than bad to offer. This is a better looking web series than many I've seen. The writing and direction of the characters however, more than help make up for any lackluster technical issues. The characters themselves? Funny and charming at the same time. Even "Manos" himself is charming in a strange kind of way. One thing is for sure. You can't credit the direction alone for these comical characters. The cast themselves should also take a bow. I can only imagine the laugh fest it probably was when filming. I know I would have had problems keeping a straight face. When it's all said and done though, the fun nature of the show is conveyed nicely by the performers. Nice job.
On the flip side of things, there were a few color issues here and there, but as I wrote above, far less than I expected. Except that is... at the end of the third episode. Visually, it felt like things just fell apart during the last minute or two. Realistically? By that point it didn't really matter. The episode was over.
I have no doubt that if this show had a "decent" budget for some decent gear... my write up would be a whole lot different. Same cast. Same story. A bigger production budget. Can you imagine? As it sits right now, as a series that is free to watch... there really is no reason not to see it. Unless you don't like to laugh that is. Maybe not for everyone, but for anyone who loves silly comedy.
I'm not totally sure what the current production status is, but I, personally, am looking forward to more episodes. I have little doubt that if these folks continue to push onward, the possibilities are endless. Besides... I want to see what happens next. For making my cheeks hurt much more than I was expecting, a solid well earned three out of five. Not bad at all.
