So let me put it this way. When Desires Of The Heart becomes available, do yourself a favor and watch it on your big screen if you can. Get a DVD, Blu-Ray or stream it right into your living room! Directors James Kicklighter and Rajesh Rathi have a winner here! Watching it on anything that you use to look at Facebook is a grave injustice.
We have Desires Of The Heart labelled as a Drama, when in reality this fantastic title is a genre bending film. I'll admit it. During the first 15 minutes or so I was reminded of the Romantic Comedy " Sweet Home Alabama " starring Reese Witherspoon and Josh Lucas. No biggie I thought. As far as Romantic Comedies go it was a pretty good film. I could dig it. Ever so slowly (Or maybe not that slowly) things changed. A lot. I'm not going to go into all the juicy plot details because we don't do that here at IndyRed. Let me just say that Desires Of the Heart switches the perceived genre quickly, and not just once. Some films attempt to change genre styles to baffle and blow away the viewer, in an attempt to hide a flawed script. Not here. Desires Of The Heart is expertly written and translated to the screen in a brilliant way. I can honestly say it was a true pleasure to watch such a great Indie flick! Clearly a great script existed and the pacing and execution were spot on. Does that mean the film looks good? In this case I say Hell Yeah! The awe inspiring camera work presented in Desires actually made me look up the Cinematographer on iMDB. Mr. Tim Gill. This man has an knack for capturing beauty in almost every scene. Desires Of The Heart was visually awesome and indeed, a special shout out should be written. Aside from capturing the amazing scenes Mr. Gill also seemed to know how to compose shots that enhanced the story, rather than hide it with fancy camera moves. A true gift and one the Directors used perfectly. I should also add that the editing and sound design were for the most part slick, pro and truly a treat. The same can be said of the talent themselves. No good film can be so without some expert actors. Val Lauren and Alicia Minshew showcase their collective "Chops" and never disappoint throughout the film. I actually found myself wishing more scenes were present that had the two together. The chemistry was really that good. Excellent job guys! Desires Of The Heart is a damn near perfect Indie production in my eyes. All the pieces are there, and puzzled together in an expert way. The fact I highly recommend this title when it becomes available is quite evident I think. Like I said up top though. Treat yourself to a great movie night on your big screen when you can. You'll be glad you did. -JT Other Reviews That May Interest You
