Revenge. The plot of so many stories, movies and real life situations. There are not that many overall concepts for any fiction to pick from, but revenge can be the most fun - especially with film. Brutal fun? Or downright entertaining fun. Depends on the flick, style and genre of choice. One of my personal favorites? Grindhouse movies. Exploitation for the sake of over the top action, gore, nudity and yes... even comedy. "Girls Guns and Blood" is one such film, as I'm sure most will guess based on the title and trailer. This film is definitely not for everyone. Not for a lot of people actually - but if you know what you're getting into, and enjoy this sort of movie, there's some fun to be had here. For those looking for a film that takes itself more seriously, and are less open to just having a good time? Best move on pardner. Nothing worth seeing here.
The basic spoiler free concept here? Goes something like this... A family of working girls. A robbery by some real dicks. The loss of the workin' girls queen bee. Oh - and then the real fun begins. Revenge. These girls can do more than whisper sweet nothings into someones ear, and when angered, they put out a whole lot more - than could be found during some kinky backroom ball. "Girls Guns and Blood" would have been the perfect gift for the pre-internet teenager of the 80's or 90's - but since we're all grown up now, and have access to internet porn, a slight pang of nostalgia sure helps things along here. But one thing is for certain - as stated above, if this is your thing... you'll really enjoy this film. So let me be honest. Large chunks of this movie look like it was produced by a bunch of drunks on roller skates. Also - most of the acting, but surprisingly not all of the acting, is just as brutal as some of the violence itself. There is no chance for an Oscar here - yet it mirrors the exploitation films it represents so damn well. And in case you're wondering? Yes. There is a lot to laugh at - this is a funny movie. Even though a lot of the comedy comes from some really bad acting. I'm not sure just how much of the acting is bad on purpose - or just bad. But it really doesn't matter. Again, if you're into grindhouse cinema, this will all fit perfectly into place.
Also to those wondering? Yes. There is hand to hand fighting. Yes. There are weapons and even when considering the kills, "Girls Guns and Blood" is very... very sexual in nature. I should also say that for one reason or another, I was actually expecting a lot more blood. Not saying there is none, only that when you consider the word blood is in the title, I was expecting a literal blood soaked blood fest. But all in all, the cheesy nature of the production itself really does lend itself to the genre it represents. You either love it or you don't. When it's all said and done? I enjoyed this film. Right from the start, with our stereotypical baddie essentially talking right at me, playing the chain game with words, I knew I was going to like this movie. I'll admit it seems to be missing something I can't quite put my finger on, but generally speaking, it was fun to watch. Especially after a few beers. Speaking of beers? I imagine getting together with a few friends, over a few drinks, would yield the maximum enjoyment for this flick. This is the kind of film to oogle and laugh over with friends. One thing is for certain - again, you'll either really like this film - or absolutely, completely hate it. For this reviewer however, this one manages to squeak out three stars. |
