What we have here is not a standard film or short by any stretch. Honey Halo: The Left By Snakes Video Series is exactly what the name implies. It is a collection of abstract videos, accompanying various tunes performed and recorded by the band. I'm not going to attempt to critique the music itself; save to write that it is not my preferred genre for the most part. However, a few of the tunes did actually catch my attention and surprising to me, I actually enjoyed them.
Using the term abstract is an easy fit for this collection, but not completely the case. I did notice some storytelling elements present in the video, and placing it in an "experimental genre" box simply would be the wrong thing to do. At the same time, placing the Honey Halo videos into the "experimental" box feels so right. It really is a tough one to call so I'm just going to leave it to the imagination of the viewer/listener to make their own distinction.
On the technical side, like everything else I've written thus far, we have a mixed bag; or at the very least a open for personal opinion scenario. There really is nothing fancy here. At all. It's all straight forward shots without any real merit warranting an explanation. I can write that some of the shots themselves mix well with the music and, as I wrote above form a loose narrative.
The Honey Halo videos are exactly what you are probably thinking. Jam videos. Something to put on when you're looking for a vibe or just relaxing to some tunes. The images onscreen meshing with the music created a strange mood for me. Relaxing almost, even for the not so relaxing tunes. You may notice I've not included any stars in this review. That's simply because rating a video such as this feels completely wrong. If you are looking for a vibe, to chill a bit and just watch something; maybe just wanting to hear some Indie tunes with a video that easily allows your imagination to soar. This is the ticket. If any of this seems like a good plan than check out this video. Even if it's not your thing you'll quickly agree that it was time well spent.
