Writers/Directors Juliane Block and Virginia Kennedy team up with a great cast/crew to bring you a gem of a Mockumentary that's actually funny! This is coming from me, a guy who generally doesn't like these kinds of movies. So take my review with a grain of salt, and add a little more to my score if this is your genre of choice. What's it about? In a nutshell, it centers on a reality show and the eccentric people involved in making it. For all purposes, it's a fake documentary about making a fake reality show. Take that HollyWood!!!
Kinks is a decently written film with some truly comical aspects. The camerawork and sound are all what you'd pretty much expect from this kind of film. Nothing really shines but nothing really trails behind either. I have to say that the editors really did a great job making things feel natural. Well.... Natural for this type of film that is. Where does this film really shine? The cast themselves! These guys/gals do such a great job that you forget you're watching actors... pretending to wanna become actors. Full of Human-ism (Ya... I made that word up) mixed with eccentricity, the cast really pulled this film through and made it a very enjoyable watch. You really got to love a project when you can believe that it's not a project at all!
On the grand scale of things, for me, Kinks was much better than I expected, but not as good as I hoped. The cast, along with some slick editing really pushed the film through. Although the writing itself was good, there were some serious issues with pace and timing that really pulled me out more than once. But, to counter that aspect, there were some really funny moments as well. Would I recommend this film to my friends? If they liked this kind of film then yes! In a second! If you like this style you'll LOVE this film! Anyone else? Ya... I'll admit it. You'll get your entertainment value as you watch. But when it's over it won't be long until it's forgotten.
I humbly submit my review of 3.5 / 5.0
