BILL'S THOUGHTS.
I went into this short film not quite sure what to expect. And as I watched it, at times I thought I knew where things were going... but I didn't. Looking back the signs were all there on what the 'punchline' of the short would be, but I never seen them with clarity until the last few minutes. Anyhow. I do not want to give away the film so I'll just jump right in to the technical aspects of my review. First off, there's not a lot of talking here. What's left in it's place are a bunch of movements and expressions. And these are acted rather nicely. If an expression could speak wonders, the cast have done an amazing job here. In terms of camerawork/editing Simone is a decent entry. Nothing amazing but the trick is done. The editing is done well for this type of film. What type is that? I call it stylistic. If an edit seems slightly off, more than likely it's done that way with a purpose. The purpose being to throw you off. My only real gripe about Simone is the camera going out of focus a lot. I realize that this is part of the films style but find it takes away from it. The shaky camera movements are one thing, but the blur... well, enough said. Overall I'm quite glad I watched this and look forward to watching more from these guys. Oh, and one more thing... I really loved the scoring done here. Completely took me back to horror films of old. I give Simone a 3.5 / 5. DARRIN'S THOUGHTS. I'm going to cut to the chase on this one. But before I take a strip out of this movie let me write the good. Acting. Not to shabby. I got a kick out of some of the expressions used during this movies 15 or so minutes. Good job to the ladies here. I especially loved the end scene featuring the mutilation and death of one of the cast. The sounds were damn freaky. Nice work ladies. The Look. This movie looses a lot of points with me here. I know that some people like the Blair Witch look but I'm not one of them. For me with a little more care I think this movie could have been much better than it was. Story and Sounds. Not a bad idea. Solid, although it's nothing I've never seen before. Some good use of sounds and music. Took me back to the 1980's. For some reason this movie reminded me of a really old movie called Demons. And finally. This movie was not my style but that doesn't make it bad. I think it could have been done a little better but I watched it all so it wasn't a complete bomb by any means. I also give credit to the ladies, again, for some of their scenes that you don't find in a lot of independent films. You guys... er... girls have a lot of guts and should be patting yourselves on the back. I give Simone a 2.5 / 5. OVERALL RATING: 6/10. Other Reviews That May Interest You
